I read this delightful book to my fourth grade class. They loved it. They enjoyed the characters and the adventures of the characters. The adventures were easy for the students to relate to. We then embarked on some of Charlie's adventures on our own in class. We recreated the characters' journeys in our Language Arts classroom. The children were totally engaged and produced elaborate artwork and amazing short stories. This book is a gem. It is written so that the child can read it him/herself and it can enhance the learning activities in the classroom. My students are looking forward to Book Two!!

The Misadventures of Hobart Hucklebuck Review

The Misadventures of Hobart Hucklebuck
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Welcome to the village of Pennywhistle, where almost everything is enchanted under very strict supervision at the Pennywhistle Amalgamated Enchantment Factory. On command, slices of bread jump into toasters, and when all nice and toasty, they spread themselves with butter and jelly. Lawnmowers mow lawns, mops mop, and cuckoo clocks really go quite cuckoo on the hour. All enchantments however, must be approved by the A.E.I.O.U. (Amalgamated Enchantment Industry's Organized Union), and ordinary magic is strongly discouraged.
This story's the tale of Hobart Hucklebuck
Whose enchanted objects began getting stuck
The bread wouldn't toast and the covers stayed down
Something was amiss in his magical town
The folk from the bureau were very upset
Unauthorized magic was surely a threat
They worried and wondered just who it could be
And blamed the whole thing on Wicksford Waxenbee
Hobart knew that this was a big load of blather
And started to work himself into a lather
He called up his friends for an investigation
To free his grandfather from dire Tribulation
Their search almost ended in certain disaster
`Til he called up a spell that he hoped he could master
To learn how it ends, you must read it to see
`Cos there's no way that you're going to hear it from me
Recommended for young readers, who will surely get a thrill from the colorful characters with names like Spacklethack and Rumpleskirt, the weird sounding menu items, and the thrilling action of the penultimate chapter.Amanda Richards, July 29, 2007

Things are not as they should be in Pennywhistle. Enchanted toasters are not toasting, enchanted sprinklers are not sprinkling and Hobart Hucklebuck's origami messenger birds are suddenly attacking him. Someone seems to be draining the power from all of the enchanted items in the village. But who could it be and why have they implicated Hobart's grandfather? "The Misadventures of Hobart Hucklebuck" follows Hobart and his friends, Specks Spacklethack and Rosie Rumpleskirt, as they try to solve this mystery and free Hobart's grandfather from the Tower of Tribulation on Mumblemonk Mountain. The trio's investigation into the mysterious happenings on Druid Lane gets them into hot water more than once and ultimately brings them dangerously close to disaster not only for themselves, but the entire village of Pennywhistle.

Christian Response to Dungeons and Dragons Review

Christian Response to Dungeons and Dragons

I am a Christian and I must say that this book does not deserve the title '"Christian" Response to Dungeons and Dragons'. Many of the facts are wrong and most of the arguments are deceptive or outright false. If you are planning to read this book, I recommend you get the Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook and/or Dungeon Master's Guide and compare them. Most (if not all) of the author's claims are wildly inaccurate.

School of Wizardry (Circle of Magic, Book 1) Review

School of Wizardry (Circle of Magic, Book 1)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In 6th grade I read my first of the Circle of Magic books, the School of Wizardry. It started me into realm of fire breathing dragons, arrogant wizards, and gallant knights. Here I was hiding the book under my notebook at school, because even then I felt embarrassed at the size and childness of the book. The books have the reading level set at the age of 9-12 and because of this many might look over them. Though these books inspired me as a youth to explore the wide variety of literature out there, I feel it can do the same for ANYONE. Debra Doyle has found a way to reach out to ALL audiences. The publicity was down, so thence the sales. But the books themselves are magnificent. As I have not so forcibly made my younger brother read them, he has become a fan at the age of 14. As he checked them out of my old Junior High, I got the chance to read them once more as a Senior in High School. Of course this time I didn't have to hide them, but flaunted them as the occasion permitted. Now this review is quickly becoming unhelpful, but the point I am trying to put across is that these books appeal to ALL ages. I love them. On my list are classics like The Hobbit, A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court, and the Wheel Of Time series. But the circle of magic (though somewhat adolescent) stand out among the best. I can't think of another book I would rather have my children read in the future, and for anyone with the love of fantasy and imagination.

The Necronomicon Review

The Necronomicon

I am presuming this is probably just Kuriakos again with a different name - all the books , if you could call them that are cynical moneymaking ploys, bereft of content.

This book takes the Necronomicon and cuts it down to the bone with step by step simple evocation rituals to summon The Elders (good) and the Ancient Gods (evil) as well as a Book of Shadows to record your rituals and results. The spirits in this book are NOT in the Necronomicon Spellbook by Simon. This Necronomicon Ritual Book is the most powerful simple to the point Magick you will ever do! These are the most powerful spirits of good and evil from the original Necronomicon. You have been warned so please proceed with caution

Whats Your Story Postcard Collection Review

Whats Your Story Postcard Collection
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This limited edition book was only available from Waterstone's in the UK. It contains postcards with very short stories (some illustrated) on the front, suitable for mailing should you choose to pull them out. It was done as a fund raiser for two charities, Dyslexia Action and English PEN.
Included are original, new stories from best selling authors such as JK Rowling and Neil Gaiman (and many more), and also winners from Waterstone customers and booksellers.
The stories vary from funny to sad - it was hard to pick a favorite although Lisa Appignanesi's effort about a woman who got what she thought she wanted in love would probably be it if forced. My sole complaint on this is that some of the handwriting is hard to read. I guess it makes me feel better about my own penmanship - at least I have one thing in common with some incredible authors.
Enjoyable to read and for a good cause, this collection of short stories is well recommended.
